Bureau of Cannabis Control Now Accepting Applications for Local Equity Grant Funding

Jul 31, 2019

SACRAMENTO – The Bureau of Cannabis Control (Bureau) announced today that it is accepting applications for grant funding authorized by the California Cannabis Equity Act of 2018 (Equity Act), established by Senate Bill 1294.

The Bureau was appropriated $10 million to award to cities and counties assisting equity applicants and licensees through their local equity programs focusing on inclusion and support of persons in the cannabis industry who were negatively or disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition.

“We’re excited to release the equity grant application process for local jurisdictions,” Bureau Chief Lori Ajax said. “This funding is a substantial step toward supporting and encouraging equity applicants and licensees with entry into California’s commercial cannabis industry.”

To apply for grant funding, a local jurisdiction must submit an application and the required documentation electronically through an online portal between July 31, 2019 and August 30, 2019. The application and additional information about the equity grant guidelines and process can be found here – https://www.bcc.ca.gov/about_us/equity_grant.html, or, under the “About Us” section of the Bureau’s website.

All grant funds will be awarded no later than June 30, 2020. Local jurisdiction applicants that submit timely applications and meet the eligibility requirements will receive a minimum grant of $100,000 unless a lesser grant amount is requested. Only local jurisdictions are eligible for grant funds.
