Over $8.4M in illegal cannabis, 643 pounds of illicit mushrooms seized at illegal delivery service in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY — Working to take down an unlicensed cannabis delivery service, the California Department of Cannabis Control partnered with the Westminster Police Department to seize over $8.4M worth of illegal cannabis including 643 pounds of illicit psilocybin mushrooms worth $44,000.

“The Department of Cannabis Control’s is thrilled to partner with local law enforcement agencies, like Westminster PD, on meaningful enforcement efforts like this one that help protect their community and keep their constituents safe,” said Department of Cannabis Control Central and Southern California Commander Robert Casas. “We value local partnerships and encourage other enforcement agencies to reach out to us for assistance.”

Additional highlights from the seizure include:

  • 351 pounds of cannabis concentrate
  • 1,505 pounds of illegal cannabis flower
  • 3,891 pounds of illegal vape cartridges
  • 600 pounds of illegal cannabis edibles

“This sizeable enforcement action underscores Westminster PD’s commitment to keeping the public safe, as it addresses the vital need to protect communities from unlicensed cannabis operators who may also be distributing unregulated and untested substances like hallucinogenic mushrooms,” said Chief Darin Lenyi of Westminster Police Department.

On May 2, 2025, Westminster PD arrested Kung Chau, a 49-year-old male and resident of Westminster for possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession for sale of marijuana. Chau was booked into Orange County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing.
